Tabor was established in 1965, after five local businesses in Águeda region, who manufactured bicycle saddles, operating in the same market realized that they weren't fully benefiting from the global potential market share.

fachadaHence, they decided do organize and consolidate into a single company named ‘’Tabor organização ciclista da Borralha lda’’. All five companies stopped producing saddles, handling over all they're production tools and know-how to Tabor.

During the 70's, Tabor acknowledged a market opportunity to start building shock absorvers and suspension forks for bikes. This was a strong market in Águeda region and continued to be so until late 80's.

During the 90's the motorcycle market suffers a profound change: new international players come into action in Portugal and the local businessmen weren't able to survive the aggressive competition.

In the bicycle segment things weren't going so well either: for once, the national market began importing parts from Asian countries, among which the bicycle saddles and on another twist, the traditional leather saddle which once played an important role of Tabor sales, was going out of fashion...

rolo chapaIn 2001, a company named "Ciclo Fapril" grabs hold of an important share of Tabor's capital, passing some exceding work flow to Tabor since it this company has the labour capacity to do so. To mentio some examples: tabor executes small handmade welding processes, manual parts drilling , some small finishing of final parts, amongst other non-specialized works.

After 7 years, by 2008, Ciclo Fapril traces a company strategy to fully autonomize the areas of cutting and stamping sheet metal as it already have made with other indoor processes. It then proposes Tabor to be CF external supplier as the main products Tabor was working on were still decaying (saddles, suspensions and forks).

Tabor embraces this project and builds a new factory wing, dedicated to cutting and stamping sheet metal, expanding its industrial area, thus, reinforcing its colaborator team, contracting new workers while incorporating into its human resources, some workers from CF with experience in cutting and stamping metal works.

Ciclo Fapril then transfers all its cutting and stamping machines on a loan basis to Tabor and the entire volume of CF sheet metal works is therefor made by Tabor

Along the last few years, Tabor has been making some strategic capital investments, namely in 2012 with the acquisition of a precision laser metal cutting machine, allowing to endorse new clients as well as expanding its branch of market intervention.

fabrica geralAlthough the leather saddle market, product that gave birth to Tabor, went trough a critical business crisis, nowadays it stands as a very interesting niche of sales, almost as a gourmet product, namely on the northern European countries due to this type of saddle being very comfortable and also because of the exponential growth of urban/city bicycles who usually are equipped with a larger, springier saddle model  where product weight begins to be irrelevant, as the customer opts for the ultimate quality comfort and a more traditional look for his bike. Tabor never stopped producing leather saddles, giving priority to maintain the handcrafted process, thus keeping alive the memory of past times were the bicycle was considered the principal means of transportation, now perceived along it's comfort, as a symbol of "status quo" and personal identity in the city. Thus, Tabor separated its saddles comercialization  from the rest of its area of intervention, creating an individual identity for its saddles: Taborsaddles.

Sustainability, integrity, customer satisfaction and social awareness are some of the values that allowed Tabor to keep manufacturing high quality bicycle saddles until today.
